SIXTY YEARS OF THE DAIMLER 2.5 V8 SALOON

Sixty years ago this month, Daimler unveiled their first car with monocoque bodywork and the belated heir to the Conquest Century, which ceased production in 1958. However, the saloon embodying "True Prestige Motoring In The Modern Manner" caused alarm and consternation in certain quarters.

MEMORIES OF MY FIRST NEC MOTOR SHOW

It is Saturday 18th October 1980. My family have just arrived at Southampton Central Station for the long train journey to Birmingham International – and my first Motor Show at the NEC. We – or rather my mother - had decided the 142-mile trip was best undertaken by train due to genuine concerns that our car was not the ideal form of transport.

The ITV line-up includes Rawhide, starring Eric Fleming, and a young actor named Clint Eastwood, at 730pm, followed by a screening of Cat and Mouse, an undistinguished 1958 B-feature featuring Lee Patterson and his amazing quiff.
