The Austin A40 Devon – A Celebration
- 31st October, 2022
Today, the A40 Devon is a car often seen in the sort of black & white films where characters utter such lines as "Dash it all, Inspector! Yes, I was at the manor house at the time of the murder!". It is also one of the most important cars to wear the Austin badge, and we are delighted to showcase the A40 on our display at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. In addition, we are equally thrilled that its pedal-powered smaller sibling will accompany it.
Britain’s Favourite Classic Charity – Road tripping with Practical Classics
- 31st October, 2022
Over the course of a week at the end of September, we joined Danny Hopkins from Practical Classics magazine on a road trip around the UK, visiting the top five Classic Charities above. It was fantastic to see these great causes in action - and to be joined by so many classic enthusiasts along the way. Practical Classics completed the road trip in their restored, NHS blue ‘Rebel with a Cause’ Reliant – which will be auctioned off to raise money for NHS charities. Here’s a round-up of this very special road trip…

MEET THE OWNER – TONY PARK AND HIS VAUXHALL RADFORD
- 28th October, 2022
On the 11th October 1963, The Daily Telegraph announced, "A version of the 2.6 litre Vauxhall Cresta for the business executive is announced to-day by Harold Radford, the coachbuilders. It is called the Vauxhall Radford". And Tony Park now owns what is believed to be the sole remaining example of this exclusive machine.
THE 2022 BEAULIEU AUTOJUMBLE
- 28th October, 2022
2022 marks possibly my 20th Beaulieu Autojumble, an event that always manages to surpass itself. There was the chance to marvel at a Fiat Dino Coupe, one of the most elegant cars of its generation and, in the 1950s display, a bright red late-model E-Series Velox.
MEET THE OWNER – ANDY CARTER AND HIS DODGE SPACEVAN
- 28th October, 2022
Certain automotive sounds belong to the past, from the engine note of a Morris 1100 to the transmission whine of a Vauxhall Viva HB. Others may recall the distinctive snarl of a 'Spacevan', as it variously delivered pints of silver top, investigated the failure of a telephone box or checked for non-licensed television sets. But now, Andy Carter's 1977 example is one of the few on the road.

SIXTY YEARS OF THE DAIMLER 2.5 V8 SALOON
- 26th October, 2022
Sixty years ago this month, Daimler unveiled their first car with monocoque bodywork and the belated heir to the Conquest Century, which ceased production in 1958. However, the saloon embodying "True Prestige Motoring In The Modern Manner" caused alarm and consternation in certain quarters.
WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE CHOSEN IN 1976?
- 26th October, 2022
The Beaulieu Autojumble has long provided me with an excuse/utterly justifiable reason to purchase some old motoring magazines. And when looking at Motor's 17th July 1976 edition, I am tempted to read the new car prices and wonder what would have been my choice for a particular sum.
MEET THE OWNER – DAVID ROBERTS AND HIS NISSAN CHERRY EUROPE 1.2
- 26th October, 2022
Mythology is so often a wildly inaccurate source of motoring history. Not all Austin Allegros had a square steering wheel, and the Lada 1200/1500 represented mobility for thousands of families. As for the Arna/Cherry Europe, it represented an ambitious and far-sighted attempt at collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Nissan.
MEMORIES OF MY FIRST NEC MOTOR SHOW
- 26th October, 2022
It is Saturday 18th October 1980. My family have just arrived at Southampton Central Station for the long train journey to Birmingham International – and my first Motor Show at the NEC. We – or rather my mother - had decided the 142-mile trip was best undertaken by train due to genuine concerns that our car was not the ideal form of transport.
MEET THE OWNER – LUCA LINFOOT AND HIS FIAT 850
- 26th October, 2022
"I purchased the car on the spur of the moment, as I thought it looked really nice and something I hadn't seen before. I really went in blind, not knowing what I was even buying". What Luca Linfoot acquired was a 1969 Fiat 850, one of the last major rear-engine cars to hail from Turin.
THE FORD FIESTA Mk. I - A TRIBUTE
- 25th October, 2022
