Introducing our February Bright Young Spark - Jessica Maria Brito

03 March 2025

How did your interest start?

It comes from my mum. When the family car broke down there was no one to get it fixed so I became that person. I was fortunate enough that she trusted me to work on her car with just a few tools. I would make mistakes and ask for help from my school teachers who steered me in the right direction. When I moved to the UK I joined the Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation (OUMF); they place students on a classic car race team to gain hands-on experience.

What classics do you own?

I do not own any classics but it would be a dream to have a Chevrolet Impala modified to be a Lowrider, they were the only classic cars I knew growing up Having learned about classic British cars the Lowrider is simply the one for me. However, they aren’t the easiest to find and purchase on this side of the world.

What inspires you?

It's fascinating to be able to revive something from the past and show its previous beauty to everyone. Like Minded enthusiasts will always understand the time and dedication.

Do you want to go into the classic industry in the UK?

I can see my interest in a role in the classic industry growing in the UK. I've started to call this place home. Access to classics for sale and a willing community pushed me towards a job with a heritage team.

What is the first step and how will you take it?

Building connections. I plan to continue working with groups like OUMF to refine my skills and meet people along the way who share the same interest. I'll take pathways to learn while I working on my academic studies.

What advice would you give other youngsters?

Get out there and interact with anyone who will talk to you. There are endless opportunities you can get with just a simple ‘hello’. Even if you don't know anything, show up, be willing, starting from ground zero will help highlight your passion and drive.
