How did your interest in cars and classics start?
My interest in classic cars has come from my family. Mainly my grandad who has guided me and brought me up around the vehicles he has owned and taken me to many shows. One of my favourite vehicles has been in my family for 20 years. This vehicle is a 1950 Studebaker fire truck. This has fuelled my passion for classics.
What classics do you own or want to own?
The vehicle that I own is a 1967 Morris Minor which I daily drive and have owned for nearly 2 years. The moggy has had a full restoration and it is taken to many shows throughout the year. The classic that I want to own is a 1965 ford Cortina Mk1 GT. the reason for this is that it was my grandad’s first car and I would love to recreate that car.
What inspires you as an enthusiast?
Simply being able to go to shows and see all of the classics that people own and love. I love to drive the vehicles in the family as well. I also love to maintain and repair them too – it’s multi-layered.
Do you want to go into the classic industry?
Yes! I am looking at going into the classic car industry in the future as my main dream is to become a classic car and truck mechanic so I can keep as many classic vehicles on the road as possible.
What is the first step and how will you take it?
Visit as many classic car garages as possible and ask if there are any opportunities. I already fix my friend’s classic cars and trucks so maybe I’ll open my own garage that only does classic cars and trucks in the future. It is so important for us youngsters to get into the classic car industry as it is a dying art. We need the youngsters to keep it alive. Take the advice of the older generation as once they are gone their knowledge is too.
Inspiring our young people
The Lancaster Insurance Bright Young Sparks initiative supports young people who are striving to join the classic world – whether by working in it or simply enjoying it as a hobby. In the run up to the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show in March 2024, we will be celebrating the stories of six ‘Bright Young Sparks’ – as nominated by you!
What are the prizes?
Daniel and his five co-finalists will each win: £250 to go towards tools or classic kit and two tickets to the PC Resto Show in March 2024, while also appearing in the Lancaster newsletter and in PC.
