We caught up with Pete Huggins, National Treasurer, of the Reliant Owners Club.
The Reliant owners club can trace its roots all the way back to April 1958 when a small group of enthusiasts who loved their Reliant cars approached the Reliant factory to get together with new reliant owners who could share the passion as owners of the cars. This group became the 1st Branch called the London Branch.
The factory could see the benefits of this and that it could promote the brand and therefore sales.
At the time the cars proved very popular with motorcyclists who now had growing families and solo motorcycling was no longer meeting their family travel needs and of course the cars could be driven on a motorcycle license.
Very quickly, the club grew into a network of regional and local clubs as the brand grew.
Nowadays the club continues to support 500 to 600 members from the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia.
There are 2 national magazines per year, social media forums, with technical help and availability of remanufactured parts from original blueprint drawings that came out of the factory, thanks to James Holland at CHG Classics in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, along with Graham Walker in Chester and few other suppliers, who also have a wealth of parts, new and used, in stock too.
The club covers all models including the early Bond cars, Regals, Rebels 4-wheeler kittens and the more modern Robins, Rialtos through to all the Reliant Scimitar range and not forgetting the fantastic Bond Bug.
The clubs big event this year is the National Rally at Shobnall Sports and Social Club, Shobnall Road, Burton On Trent DE14 2BB on the 23rd to 26th May, Whitsun Bank Holiday together with all the regional shows as well.
The Club has also been at The Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show and Lancaster Classic Motor Show for over 20 years. If you own one of these cars or just love them, you can’t afford to miss out on being a Reliant owners Club Member. Just visit Reliantownersclub.org to find out more.
