Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show reveals hall of fame inductee shortlist

30 October 2024

The organisers of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show have revealed the shortlist of potential inductees being considered for two of the four categories in its prestigious new ‘Hall of Fame’.

Part of the show’s 40th anniversary celebrations, the Hall of Fame recognises those people, motoring clubs and the classic cars that have had an impact on the show and the classic car community.

The shortlist for the first ever Motoring Club inductee comprises of four organisations, each meeting the organiser’s criteria: a club that still strives to represent its members and their chosen vehicles, achieves a considerable milestone, and shows unwavering support for the hobby and the show, building on its presence year on year.

First up is the Jowett Car Club, the world’s oldest single make car club at 101 years old and a club that continues to attract new members despite Jowett ceasing production in 1954. As well as supporting the November event, the Jowett Car Club is a huge ambassador for its Restoration sibling held in March, not only demonstrating key skills but also advising and assisting the other clubs in attendance.

Next is a club that has played a major role in the show for over 30 years, the Sporting Bears Motor Club. Its Dream Rides feature has not only raised millions for children’s charities up and down the UK but, with every member giving their time, car and petrol for free, it also engages enthusiasts in a unique way to other motoring groups.

The MG Car Club is also on the shortlist. Another club celebrating the centenary of its marque, its focus is also on the future with its work in encouraging younger enthusiasts into the hobby. Despite facing many challenges, the MGCC continues to work with other clubs for the good of the community.

The final club on the shortlist for the first Motoring Club inductee is the BMW Car Club GB. Since appearing at the very first Classic Motor Show, this club has supported every event and evolved with the BMW brand to encompass fans of all ages.

In the first year of the Hall of Fame, the inductees will be chosen by the Classic Motor Show organising team. Nine members of staff were asked to nominate one inductee in the categories. The team deliberated on all of the nominations and then votes were taken to whittle down and then identify the winner in each category. In the case of a tie, the Show Director had the casting vote

Lee Masters, Show Director, added: “Our vision for the future is to build the Hall of Fame, possibly expanding the categories, and including other guests in the nomination and voting process.”

The Classic Car category will celebrate a vehicle that has made a significant contribution to motoring, either for its design, functional ingenuity, technical advancement, cultural impact, motorsport achievements or longevity in the industry.

The four iconic cars shortlisted are the Bentley Blower, Mini Cooper, E-Type Jaguar and Ferrari Testarossa. Each of these cars has as strong place in motoring now as it did in period.
